(As a group) Deploy a Windows 2025 SAN Server:

1. In your groups, create 1 SAN Server.
   • A. Create the server by using the template named, CIS-335-Windows2025-Template.
   • B. Name the server: cis335-g#-san
   • C. There should only be 1 SAN server per group! It should be in your Group Folder.
   • D. Use the Guest OS Profile named, CIS335-Windows 2025 - Static IP
   • E. Assign it an IP address of 192.168.x.4 (where x is your group #)
   • F. Server Specs: 2 CPUs, 6GB RAM, & Three Hard Disks: 60 HD, 5 HD, 5HD - All Thin Provisioned

(As a group) Create a RAID Volume in Server Manager:

1. You create RAID volumes in Server Manager through its Storage Spaces utility.
2. Create a new storage pool by selecting the TASKS drop-down box in the Storage Pools pane and click, New Storage Pool.
   • A. At the New Storage Pool Wizard, click Next.
   • B. At the Specify a storage pool name and subsystem page, type Storage Pool 1 in the Name text box and click next.
   • C. At the select physical disks for the storage pool page, select the disks, then click Next.
   • D. Click create at the confirmation step.
3. Highlight Storage Pool 1 in the Storage Pools pane and note the two disks shown in the physical disks pane.
4. Select the TASKS drop-down box in the VIRTUAL DISKS pane, and click New Virtual Disk.
   • A. At the New Virtual Disk Wizard, click Next.
   • B. Name the virtual disk: Virtual Disk 1
   • C. At the Select the storage layout page, select Mirror and click Next.
   • D. Set the provision type to Thin.
   • E. Set the size of the virtual disk to: 5 GB
   • F. Click create at the confirmation step.
5. In the New Volume Wizard that follows:
   • A. Select the virtual disk and click Next
   • B. Set the Volume size to match the available capacity
   • C. Assign the virtual disk a drive letter of: R
   • D. Name it: Mirrored
   • E. Click create at the confirmation step.

(As a group) Configure Windows Server 2025 as an iSCSI SAN Device:

1. In Server Manager, click the Manage menu and then click Add Roles and Features.
2. Select your server
3. Expand File and Storage Services and then expand File and iSCSI Services.
   • A. Select iSCSI Target Server and click Add Features when prompted.
   • B. Select iSCSI Target Storage Provider and click next.
4. On Features page, click next leaving options as selected
5. Read the confirmation step and click the Install button.
6. In Server Manager, click File and Storage Services, and then click iSCSI. Select the TASKS drop-down box and click New iSCSI Virtual Disk.
   • A. In the New iSCSI Virtual Disk Wizard, select volume R:
   • B. Name the iSCSI virtual disk: iSCSI Virtual Disk 1
   • C. Note the default selection of Dynamically expanding. Set the size to 4.93
   • D. At the Assign iSCSI Target page, click Next.
   • E. Set the target name to: iSCSITarget1
   • F. At the Specify access servers page, click Add.
     • Select IP Address from the Type drop-down box. In the Value text box, type in your IP address for your personal DNS server. Note: each student in the group should add their IP address of their DNS server.
   • G. Don’t enable authentication.
   • H. Click the Create button.

(Individually) Connect Your Personal DNS Server to the iSCSI Storage:

1. In Server Manager on your dns server, click the Tools menu and then click iSCSI Initiator.
   • A. When prompted to start the Microsoft iSCSI service and configure it to start at boot time, click Yes.
   • B. At the iSCSI Initiator Properties window, type the IP address of your SAN server and click Quick Connect.
   • C. Click the Volumes and Devices tab in the iSCSI Initiator Properties window, click Auto Configure, and then click OK.
2. Right-click on the Start button, and click Disk Management. Note that a new 5 GB storage has been added.
   • A. Bring the disk online and format it.
   • B. Mount the disk as Drive E on your system
   • C. Name the disk, Remote iSCSI Volume 1
3. Place a text file in the E: Drive called, yourlastname.txt
